Tuning In to Kids

 

Is your child facing difficult circumstances? Are they struggling to adjust to change, and are you concerned about their big emotional ups and downs? Join us for Tuning in to Kids Online, our parenting program for parents of kids aged 3 to 10, and you will learn how to help your child connect with you in times of turmoil, understand their emotions, and regulate those emotions. 

The skills taught through the program will help you to maintain the boundaries you set for your child, while also building a deeper, emotionally rich relationship with them.

 

What Can I expect from these parenting sessions?

 The parenting sessions are conducted in-a small group format, where you will be presented with handouts, readings, DVD’s, role-plays, case-scenarios, mindfulness, relaxation strategies and an opportunity for discussion and reflection of the weekly topic.

Tuning into Kids is for parents of kids aged 3 to 10 yrs. We deliver the program over six sessions, with each session being two hours. The program is highly regarded by the Federal Circuit & Family Court of Australia.

What is Tuning In To Kids?

It is a parenting program that helps children develop social-emotional competence through positive interactions with their parents.

What is Social-Emotional Competence?

It is the capacity to recognize, understand and manage your own emotions as well as the emotions of others in a respectful manner thereby promoting positive social interactions.

Why is Social-Emotional Competence Important in Children?

Social-emotional competence is important because it promotes positive coping strategies that enables the child to cope with challenging situations in an effective manner. Studies have shown that it is also a protective factor towards wellbeing.

Does Social-Emotional Competence Develop Naturally?

Current research indicates that a child’s level of social-emotional competence is primarily influenced by:

* Parent’s expression and regulation of their emotions

* Parent’s reaction to their child’s emotions

* Family discussions about emotions

* Parent’s capacity to empathize and validate feelings.

* Parent’s capacity to regulate their emotions across various contexts.

What are the Benefit for Children Who are Social-Emotionally Competent?

Children with strong social-emotional competence are more capable of:

* Becoming independent thinkers
